Reporting to the Finance Team Leader, the Accounting Analyst I will perform a variety of accounting functions within the department. The candidate must possess superior customer service skills, be a strong team player, be detail oriented, and maintain integrity in all dealings. An Accounting Analyst I needs to learn new skills very easily, be open to change, and needs to be analytical and decisive while working within the parameters of assigned authority.

Family Insurance has been offering our Auto and Home insurance products in B.C. for over a decade. Family Insurance is a Vancouver-based member of The Economical Insurance Group. Economical Mutual Insurance Company is the insurer on all Family policies. Economical is one of the largest insurance companies in Canada, is 100% Canadian owned and was founded in 1871.

Primary Duties:
(Note: The job duties listed below will be shared among the Accounting Analyst I's. Cross training will occur and job duties may change from time to time.)

Bank Deposits:
* Prepare daily deposits for all bank accounts

Bank Reconciliations:
* Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for several of the companys bank accounts

Accounts Receivable Payment Plan:
* Handle accounts receivable telephone inquiries from policyholders and insurance brokers
* Receive and process daily Electronic File Transfer (EFT) files (rejected and returned items)
* Generate and distribute payment due notices and collection letters
* Receive payments and process deposits: cheques, EFT payments, credit card payments
* Update payments received in the notes on the companys policy system and on an excel spreadsheet
* Cancel policies for non-payment
* Send policy cancellation letters
* Work with various departments to ensure the proper and timely application of customer credits
* Offer support to insurance brokers in regards to premium payment options

Accounts Receivable - Broker:
* Receive, record and reconcile broker payment statements on an ongoing basis
* Follow up with brokers regarding outstanding payments and missing statements

Accounts Payable:
* Verify, code and enter accounts payable invoices
* Process weekly accounts payable and daily claims cheques
* File accounts payable records

General Ledger:
* Post journal entries for daily cash deposits and receipts
* Complete assorted journal entries as required

* Act as back-up to other team members as required
* Various reconciliations and working papers as required on ad hoc, monthly and yearly basis
* Periodic assistance in preparing for the companys annual audit
* Other accounting projects as required
* Other administrative duties as required

Education and Experience:

* One to two years work experience in an accounting function at a small or medium size business
* Post-secondary education in the field of accounting unless years of experience compensate adequately.
* Capable of using MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook at an intermediate to expert level.
