IF YOUR HOME HAS BEEN DAMAGED OR BROKEN INTO
The following process will help to guide you in the event you’ve suffered a loss to your property:
1. Get help
Contact the police or fire department, if necessary.
2. Gather police information (if applicable)
Get a police file number, name of the detachment, and the officer’s name and telephone number.
3. Report your claim
During business hours, contact your insurance broker. Outside of business hours, call our 24-hour emergency claims service at 1-800-661-4404.
4. Document the incident
Write down what happened in as much detail as possible. Provide a list of the items that have been stolen or damaged, including (if applicable):
- a detailed description of the item
- the make and model number
- when and where the item was purchased
- approximate purchase cost
- proof of ownership, if possible (e.g. receipt, photo, warranty registration)
LIVING ARRANGEMENTS
If your home isn’t livable, make alternate living arrangements. Remember, your policy covers additional incurred living expenses, so ask your broker or claims adjuster to provide more information about what is covered.
GET YOUR PROPERTY REPAIRED OR REPLACED
If your property can be repaired, you have the option of:
- using one of our Certified Quality Contractors (CQC), or
- selecting a contractor of your own
CQC provides a guarantee of quality property restoration and repairs, with our promise of the work for up to two years from the time of the repair. The CQC provides:
- Hassle-free services
- One-stop shopping
- Elimination of appraisals and estimates
- 24-hour emergency service
Your claims representative will contact one of our Certified Quality Contractors in your area with your coverage information and details of the damage so they are ready to begin right away.
If you’d like to use your own contractor, we’ll contact them and fax them your coverage information. A claims representative will complete an assessment of the damage, which you can take to your contractor. You may be contacted by the contractor if there are any questions or concerns.
WE’RE HERE TO HELP
