UNCLAIMED PROPERTY
The British Columbia Unclaimed Property Act requires holders of unclaimed property to maintain a database which sets out the names of unclaimed property owners and the date the property became unclaimed. The purpose of the Act is to reunite owners with any unclaimed property.
WHAT HAPPENS TO UNCLAIMED PROPERTY?
Family Insurance maintains a database of unclaimed property owners. To find out if your name appears in our database of unclaimed property, please mail or fax your request in writing to:

Family Insurance is required to ensure the claimant’s identity and entitlement to any property prior to releasing such property. As a result, your written request must include:
- first and last name of payee or name of business
- policy number and/or claim number
- current address and contact details
- two pieces of identification, one of which must be government-issued photo identification. This documentation must confirm your name, signature and date of birth.
It may take from four to six weeks for your request to be processed.
